“Above all, you have the power to heal.” -Resmaa Menakem

Welcome.

My name is Shannon Haney-Jenkins (she/her). I specialize in mental health and trauma therapy in Durham, NC and Online across North Carolina.

You might be visiting my site because you’re tired of hurting and want to heal.

Invisible wounds like anxiety, panic, and depression can be painful too.

Pain can look like overwhelming emotions, zoning out, disconnecting in relationships, getting stuck in behavior patterns (like drinking, working, or caretaking for others too much), and feeling chronic physical discomfort, to name a few.

You don’t just want a bandaid, you want lasting relief. I get that. You are brave for showing up and asking for help.

I’m here to help you challenge the pain so you can be in your body more peacefully. Real, authentic support.

I’m here to help you untie the mental knots, so you can feel more vibrant.

 Counseling in Durham, NC

My approach:

I find that clients in the Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh area have done their research and want results-driven methods. A more active approach, rather than sitting and nodding.

My background in Marriage and Family Therapy taught me to work relationally. Human to human.

First, strengthening resources that already exist within you.

Preparation is a key component. Your nervous system has a glorious way of adapting! We need a good map, though.

EMDR therapy

As an EMDRIA certified therapist, I integrate research-based interventions from somatic-informed EMDR therapy with family systems, experiential, cognitive behavioral, and feminist modalities.

We will address emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations that get stuck so you can feel more vibrant. Addressing past wounds and future anxieties to heal present pain.

EMDR is integrative and I tailor treatment to meet the systemic needs of each person.

Collaboration and support to help you reach your goals at your pace.

I could not have navigated the challenges I was facing without Shannon’s guidance and treatment. She was the first to suggest EMDR and I loved how well it worked. Shannon’s treatment plan and ability to help absolutely changed my life.

Further, we actually set goals so that I would know when we were “done” with this part of therapy.

If you are struggling, make an appointment. You won’t be disappointed. Shannon is amazing.
